In this role, the Program Assistant helps create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children and youth aged 6–18 by assisting in the delivery of recreational, educational, and outdoor activities a school-based setting. Responsibilities include supporting program facilitation, preparing materials and activity spaces, supervising participants, fostering positive relationships, and ensuring programs run smoothly and effectively. The Program Assistant also contributes to positive youth development by creating a welcoming environment where all participants feel valued, respected, and supported. The successful candidate will help ensure the efficient operation of food programs while creating a welcoming, respectful, and supportive environment for clients and community members. Key Responsibilities Assist in the facilitation of daily summer camp programs in school -based setting for children and youth aged 6–18, including sports, arts and crafts, outdoor exploration, educational workshops, and special events. Foster a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment through direct supervision and effective attendance protocols. Support community outreach and participant recruitment efforts by distributing promotional materials and engaging with families in Britannia Woods and surrounding communities. Prepare and serve snacks in accordance with BWCS guidelines and Public Health standards. Maintain a positive, energetic, and engaging attitude when interacting with children, youth, families, and team members. Actively participate in all scheduled activities alongside participants to encourage inclusion and engagement. Supervise large groups of children and youth during off-site excursions, including field trips, swimming activities and community events ensuring adherence to safety protocols. Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents, caregivers, community partners, and school staff Ensure program spaces remain clean, organized, and compliant with Public Health Ontario guidelines, including daily cleaning and disinfection of supplies, equipment, and high-touch surfaces. Assist with program setup, cleanup, and other administrative or operational duties as assigned Common Responsibilities Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all organizational policies and procedures related to privacy and information handling. Respect and value the diversity of individuals, families, and communities served by the organization. Work flexible hours, including evenings or extended hours as required, at various BWCS locations. Contribute to staff and volunteer development initiatives through participation, support, and collaboration. Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Experience working with children and youth in a community-based setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and virtual platforms. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification. Bilingualism is considered an asset. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to respond calmly, confidently, and effectively in emergency situations. Education & Qualifications Currently enrolled in a full-time post-secondary program in Health, Social Sciences, Social Work, or Child and Youth Work. Minimum of two years of experience working with children aged 6–18. Working Conditions Hours: Seasonal position, 35 hours per week for 8 weeks (total of 280 hours), typically from late June to mid-August. Environment: Work is conducted in both indoor and outdoor camp settings, with frequent interaction with children, youth, and staff in a dynamic and active environment. This position is ideal for a motivated and community-minded youth or student interested in gaining hands-on experience in community services, food security, and nonprofit programming. The successful candidate will help ensure the efficient operation of food programs while creating a welcoming, respectful, and supportive environment for clients and community members. Key Responsibilities Support weekly food deliveries, inventory management, and client appointments. Help prepare, pack, and distribute food orders to community members. Support staff and volunteers with receiving, sorting, stocking, and storing donations and supplies. Ensure food is stored, handled, and distributed according to food safety standards. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace, including food storage areas, shelves, and appliances. Build positive, respectful, and confidential relationships with clients and community members. Assist in gathering information to help respond to clients’ food needs appropriately. Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all clients, volunteers, and staff. Follow all organizational Health & Safety, confidentiality, and privacy policies. Support additional community food program activities and related duties as required. Common Responsibilities: Work in a manner that preserves confidentiality and minimizes risk in accordance with Privacy and Confidentiality Policies and Procedures. Respect and value the diversity of individuals and communities served. Participate in staff and volunteer training and development opportunities that strengthen organizational capacity. Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment with minimal supervision. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Education and/or experience in social work, community services, community organizing, or related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Interest in community engagement, food security, social services, or nonprofit work. Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and anti-oppression principles, as well as contributing to a positive and supportive workplace culture. Understanding of and ability to work collaboratively within a team environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, email, and internet navigation. Ability to lift and carry heavy boxes and food supplies (up to 50 lbs.). Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a professional and organized manner. Strong organizational skills, initiative, reliability, and self-motivation. Valid Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required. First Aid/CPR/AED certification is considered an asset. Availability to work flexible hours as required. Fluency in both French and English is essential; additional languages are considered an asset.
