ABOUT THE ROLE: The Child and Youth Program Worker will support and deliver programming across three key streams: Senior Youth (age 13-18 years): mentorship, leadership and community engagement. Beyond the Bell (6-12 years): After- school programming that fosters literacy, creativity and wellness Sports and Recreation: Youth – focused physical activity, with a strong emphasis on basketball This position is built on three core pillars: Education Wellness Social And Emotional Wellness Cultural Wellness This rile requires flexibility, creativity and a genuine ability to connect with youth and families from diverse backgrounds. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES YOUTH ENGAGEMENT AND SUPPORT Build strong, trusting relationships with youth to identify needs and support growth Provide mentorship, guidance and advocacy for youth facing personal or social challenges Encourage positive behaviours, life skills and social-emotional development PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND DELIVERY Support planning and facilitation of Beyond the Bell, youth and recreation programming Deliver engaging workshops, events and sports/recreation activities Ensure culturally relevant programming responsive to participant needs Monitor safety of activity spaces, equipment and practices Gather youth feedback to improve program quality and effectiveness Maintain clear communication with youth, parents/guardians and community partners. ADMINISTRATION Perform administrative duties related to the program such as flyers, outreach, registration, attendance list and tracking attendance daily. Maintain accurate records of youth interactions, program attendance, and outcomes. COMMUNITY AND PARTNERSHIP ENGAGEMENT Advocate for youth needs and represent BWCS at meetings and events Build collaborations that strengthen opportunities for youth and families SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of two- year experience working with youth 6- 18 years in a community setting. Strong understanding of child /youth development, trauma informed practices and culturally responsive approaches Experience facilitating sports and recreation programs Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to engage diverse youth populations. Problem-solving skills, with the ability to respond effectively in crisis/ emergency situations Proficiency in MS Office Bilingual (English /French) required Preference for male-identifying candidates to support representation and role modeling for youth. Current Standard First Aid & CPR Level C (or wellness to obtain) Enrolled in or completed post- secondary education in Child & Youth Care, Social Sciences or related field. Family and Child Worker (FCW) – SNAP Program

Systems knowledge, empathy, safety and a collaborative spirit should be the hallmarks of your approach, as you support racialized families, individuals and children navigate their unique journeys toward positive change. The SNAP Program groups specifically serve children ages 6-11 yrs old and their families, particularly those from Black and racialized backgrounds, newcomers, and those living in low-income or high-risk situations. Additionally, we provide crisis support for other individuals within our community. Our work includes culturally responsive best practices and interventions, designed to empower individuals and families and promote healthy children’s development. Most importantly, the SNAP program provides support focusing on behavioral and emotional regulation and modification. Supports are provided through the channels of advocacy, case management, crisis counseling, parental & children group programming, mentorship/sponsorship, resource navigation, needs replenishment and collaboration with other appropriate stakeholders and community partners. Successful candidates will be expected to work flexible hours, in accessible locations to accommodate their clients’ needs. All Britannia Woods Community Services (BWCS) Mental Health and Wellness programs and supports are culturally/racially/socially constructed to be responsive to Black and other racialized families, individuals and children unique, but chronic needs. Act as an advocate within academic & child welfare systems. Support clients in navigating societal social systems / health systems. Provide mentorship/sponsorship support. Follow program guidelines regarding (confidentiality, case notes, reports, record keeping etc.) Carries out discharge planning and service evaluation with families, individuals and children. Actively participates and makes use of on-going clinical supervision.Work flexible hours to meet the needs of clients -Including some evenings Liaise, consult, and collaborate with community stakeholders and make appropriate use of community resources. Implement SNAP therapeutic model guided by CBT framework and incorporate additional therapeutic modalities as required. Assumes other responsibilities as assigned from Mental Health & Counselling Director QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor of Social Work / Social Services Worker Diploma / Degree in other social sciences (ie. counselling) Must be a member in good standing with a regulated professional college (i.e. CRPO, OCSWSSW) Knowledge and experience working with Black and racialized families, individuals, and children. Knowledge and experience working with families, individuals and children that coexist with hardships related to poverty, discrimination, and other societal barriers/inequities. A minimum of 2-3 years’ professional experience working with Black and racialized families, individual and children with concerns related to mental health and other emotional/ behavioral concerns. Lived experience of Black/other racialized communities In Ottawa is an asset. Experience with developing and facilitating group programming focusing on mental & emotional health, and other emotional/behavioral barriers. Excellent interpersonal skills; oral and documentation skills Bilingualism is an asset (English, French, Somali, Arabic, etc.) Strong computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and other databases A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is mandatory.
