The Eleanor Elliott Memorial Scholarship is an annual award of $1,500 presented to an individual of any age who lives in or has lived in Britannia Woods for a significant period and who demonstrates an outstanding commitment to community service and care.

This scholarship honours the memory of Eleanor Elliott, a former resident, volunteer, Britannia Woods Community Services Board Member, and beloved “mother of Britannia Woods.” Eleanor was a deeply community-minded mother who raised her sons while also dedicating over two decades of volunteer service to supporting families across the neighbourhood.

Through this scholarship, Britannia Woods Community House continues Eleanor’s legacy by supporting individuals who are committed to community care and who are pursuing their educational goals.

The Manyok Akol Memorial Grant for Creatives is an annual award of $1,500 presented to an individual of any age who lives in or has spent a significant part of their life in Britannia Woods, and who demonstrates a strong commitment to the creative arts in any form.

This grant honours the memory of Manyok Akol a former resident, volunteer, summer camp staff member, and youth of Britannia Woods, whose life was marked by kindness, creativity, and care for others. Known to many as “Manny,” he was a supportive friend, a caring brother, and a loving son.

Through this memorial grant, Britannia Woods Community Services continues Manyok’s legacy by supporting individuals who are passionate about creative expression and committed to pursuing their artistic dreams.

About Manyok Akol

Manyok Akol was an active and valued member of the Britannia Woods community. As a youth, volunteer, and summer camp staff member, he brought energy, warmth, and creativity to those around him. He is remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the positive impact he had on friends, family, and the community.
This grant celebrates his life by investing in others who carry forward that same spirit of creativity and care.

“One Who Is Kind” or “One Who Gives”

Britannia Woods is proud to introduce the Larry Hill Mina Yaw-i Scholarship, established in 2025 to honour over two decades of Larry Hill’s compassionate leadership and unwavering commitment to equity, inclusion, and community.

This annual $1,000 scholarship supports emerging leaders who embody kindness in action, individuals who are creating inclusive spaces, challenging inequities, and uplifting underrepresented voices.

Open to applicants of all ages pursuing post-secondary education in Canada, the award reflects Larry’s belief that leadership can emerge at any stage of life and that everyone deserves the opportunity to lead with purpose.

About Larry Hill

Larry Hill is a retired Deputy Chief of Police and a long-time leader within Britannia Woods. Known for his integrity, humility, and courage, he has spent his life advocating for equity and inclusion-both within policing and across the broader community. His legacy reflects the Anishinabeg value of Mina Yaw-i and the principle of Mino Pimadiziwin, living in a good way.
